Adolescents of this generation inherit a world of challenges. To meet those challenges and solve ever more complex problems, today’s student needs a strong sense of ethical responsibility, powerful imagination, inner strength, diverse experience, deep knowledge, and the ability to work and communicate with others in a global context.

At Academe of the Oaks, our mission is to redefine the high school experience by educating our students to be resourceful, clear, and flexible thinkers, capable of making profound and positive contributions to the fast-changing world they inherit.

Who thrives at AO? The creative and intellectually curious student who enjoys learning by doing, who appreciates the opportunity to learn how to learn in a close and supportive community, who is excited by the prospect of discovering the keys to leadership, and whoever relishes independence. Academe of the Oaks offers a college prep Waldorf curriculum integrating fine and practical arts, drama, and music in a holistic education. 

Through our experiential education, students venture out of doors, learning the lessons nature has to offer. Through our international exchange, students become global citizens learning the lessons that living abroad teach. Through our service education, students develop their sense of agency and capacity to make a difference. Through our Capstone project, seniors demonstrate their ability to frame a question, do academic research, write an extended essay, and complete a project of their own design. 

Our teachers are passionately committed to cross curricular, interdisciplinary, Socratic, and experiential methods. Teachers model enthusiasm for their subjects helping students develop the skills necessary to discover what is uniquely valuable in each discipline. By teaching how to learn, we know that students leave Academe confident in their ability to ask the essential questions and to lead others toward the discovery of meaning.
