Who we are

Berkeley Carroll is a co-educational, independent, college preparatory school located in the heart of Park Slope, Brooklyn, serving students from prekindergarten through grade 12. We are a dynamic learning community where every student is truly seen, appreciated, validated, accepted, and treated equitably. Strong, positive relationships between students and educators are the foundation of our rigorous and joyful academic experience, which prepares young people to discover their purpose, passions, and confidence. Our demanding curriculum and vibrant civic life prepare graduates for success in college and, more importantly, for a life of critical, ethical, and global thinking.

From their earliest years through graduation, students are shaped by the habits of mind at the heart of our Portrait of a Learner: Curiosity, Discernment, Empathy, and Resilience; skills and dispositions that help them thrive both academically and personally. Our programs span academics, the arts, and athletics, with offerings such as six advanced science courses in the Upper School, Spanish and swim instruction and beginning in the Lower School, award-winning writing and arts programs, robust scholarly research opportunities, and vibrant athletic and performing arts, where 75% of Middle and Upper school students play a sport, 100% of 5th and 6th graders learn an instrument. About 600 students take the stage each year. Small class sizes, a 9:1 student-teacher ratio, and 77% of faculty holding advanced degrees ensure that learning is both personalized and challenging, resulting in 93% of seniors being accepted into highly selective colleges.

Our Brooklyn campus, stretching across multiple buildings in Park Slope, includes 88 classrooms, 10 science labs, a 75-foot swimming pool, music and theater rooms, two gymnasiums, and dedicated arts and performance spaces. Students come from over 67 ZIP codes, creating a diverse community where 41% identify as students of color and all are encouraged to contribute to an ethical and inclusive school culture. We proudly welcome every student “As you are and will be,” inviting them to join a community that celebrates diverse perspectives and backgrounds while inspiring a lifelong love of learning.

The Berkeley Carroll School provides need-based financial assistance to students in PreK4 through 12th Grade.  BC follows ISAAGNY guidelines for admissions and does not discriminate in its admissions process based on race, color, sex, religion/creed, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, gender (including gender identity and gender expression), citizenship status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
