Why The Birch Wathen Lenox School (BWL)?

Located on the Upper East Side, The Birch Wathen Lenox School is a coeducational, college-preparatory independent school serving 375 students from Kindergarten through Grade 12. Our one-building model creates a tight-knit community where students are known, challenged, and supported across every stage of their educational journey.

From the Lower School, students benefit from a joyful, structured academic foundation rooted in strong literacy, numeracy, social-emotional learning, and creative exploration. Choose Your Application Path

BWL offers both Early and Regular Notification options. Both pathways use the same admissions criteria and provide families with the same thoughtful, individualized admissions experience.

Early Notification is available to families for whom BWL is their first-choice school and who are prepared to enroll without financial aid. Families choosing Early Notification receive an admissions decision in December. An offer of admission through Early Notification is binding.

Families who would like additional time to consider their school options, or who require financial aid, should apply through Regular Notification.

We understand that a family’s thinking may evolve as they get to know BWL. Families may switch between Early and Regular Notification through November 6, 2026.

Families who select Early Notification but do not complete all required application steps by the Early Notification completion deadline will automatically move into the Regular Notification process. Their application will continue to be considered through the regular admissions timeline.
