Who we are

St. Luke’s School is an independent day school serving Junior Kindergarten through Grade 8 in the heart of Manhattan’s West Village. Rooted in the Episcopal tradition, St. Luke’s welcomes students of all faiths and identities. Our close-knit environment allows children to be seen, challenged, and celebrated every day.

Whether our students begin in Junior Kindergarten or join later in Upper School, they graduate in Grade 8 as confident, capable learners, ready for selective high schools and grounded with a strong sense of self, an understanding of their unique purpose within the world around them, and a resilience to take on the challenges ahead. As a JK - 8 school, St. Luke’s offers students the opportunity to grow into leadership roles during their most formative years, in an environment intentionally designed for their developmental needs before they transition into high school as self-assured adolescents.

At the center of our community are five core values, our community standards: dignity, compassion, respect, excellence, and honesty. These standards guide every relationship amongst students, professional staff, and families and shape the culture of our school.

Our integrated curriculum connects subjects in meaningful ways. History informs art, and art transforms history. We seek to find this intersectionality in all areas of study and encourage curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking across every discipline. While learning is joyful and exploratory, it’s also rigorous and designed to stretch students’ thinking and build strong academic foundations. Learning often extends beyond our walls. New York City becomes an extension of our classroom, offering students real-world context and inspiration that deepens their understanding of the world around them.

We welcome families of all faiths, backgrounds, and identities into a community that celebrates difference and fosters meaningful connection. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are not just values we uphold, they are commitments reflected in our curriculum and engrained in our school culture.

Parents and caregivers are vital members of our community. Through our vibrant Parents Association, families build friendships, volunteer, and help create and build on joyful traditions that leave a lasting mark.

For more than 80 years, St. Luke’s has nurtured all within its walls and encouraged children to lead with heart and learn with joy. As we continue to grow with purpose, we remain committed to preparing students for lives of integrity and impact. We learn together, listen to one another, and look forward to a brighter, more equitable, future.

We invite you to schedule a tour or attend an open house. We look forward to welcoming you!
