Who we are

Marin Country Day School is an independent K-8 coed day school enrolling 600 students in Corte Madera, California. Our mission at MCDS is to create an inclusive community of learning that inspires curiosity, empathy and action.

Founded in 1956 by an adventurous group of parents and educators who believed that learning is a joyous and lifelong process. Set on 35 beautiful acres, our campus is part of our curriculum, and provides students with boundless opportunities to explore, do field research, play, and feel joy.

An MCDS education offers the highest level of academic challenge and excellence, rooted in a strong sense of self, a connection to the natural world, and the skills needed to work collaboratively and creatively with others.

From kindergarten through eighth grade, our core program balances rigorous academics with the arts, athletics, outdoor education, social-emotional learning, and community engagement. Our curriculum emphasizes hands-on, project-based learning that fosters problem-solving and critical thinking skills, the ability of students to apply their learning in new ways, and collaboration.

Bordered by Ring Mountain and the bay, the natural beauty of our campus serves as a second classroom for students, enhancing their on-campus learning in a variety of subjects, including art, science, and social studies. Starting in fourth grade, our extended outdoor education program allows students to deepen their learning and connection to nature in settings such as Yosemite, historic Gold Country, and Joshua Tree National Park.

Through a supportive school environment and meaningful connections with teachers and peers, MCDS students develop a foundation of belonging and confidence to stretch the boundaries of their learning and growth. We encourage our students to think independently and critically, to make connections among ideas, to take risks, to overcome adversity, and to develop a lifelong love of learning.

Students graduate from MCDS with excellent academic preparation, self-awareness, and confidence to succeed in high school and well beyond.
