Open Window School

With nearly 40 years of excellence in gifted education, Open Window School is designed for highly capable children who love to learn.  Our program currently serves 360 gifted students in grades K-8. At the heart of the Open Window philosophy is an understanding and appreciation of our students as unique, complex human beings who are in the vital process of discovering themselves. Curriculum and teaching strategies reflect current best practices in gifted education. By providing an in-depth and hands-on curriculum that balances challenge with support, we develop students’ understanding of all they can accomplish and all they can contribute to their families, their communities and the world.

Open Window School emphasizes innovation, problem solving, and independent thinking along with challenging academics. Differentiated curriculum provides rigor and acceleration in a child’s areas of strength and builds a strong comprehensive academic foundation in all areas. Students develop self-confidence as learners who can tackle demanding problems and enjoy grappling with new ideas. Social and Emotional Learning is emphasized at all levels. This develops our students’ ability to lead, collaborate, plan, resolve conflicts, and serve others. Creative thinking and expression are fostered throughout the program. Classes in drama, art, movement, physical education, music, computers, Spanish, and information literacy lend further enrichment to the core curriculum.

The school offers a robust co-curricular program for all grade levels. Activities include choices in the arts, sciences, chess, robotics and sports. Middle school students participate in competitive sports and the school is a member of the Cascade Middle School League. Open Window also offers opportunities to compete in chess, robotics, math, and debate teams. Before and after school care is available. OWS Summer Camp programs are open to the community.
