Who we are

We’re so delighted you’re exploring The Caedmon School!

As the first Montessori school in New York City and the second in the nation, Caedmon has long been a place where children thrive. They are supported by expert educators, receive a rich and engaging curriculum, and enjoy a welcoming, inclusive community.

We offer a Montessori Preschool and a Progressive Montessori Kindergarten & Elementary School program, all rooted in our mission to inspire curiosity, honor the individual, foster independence and empathy, and nurture every child’s potential.

Here’s what sets Caedmon apart:

  • Engaged, Hands-On Learning: Children immerse themselves in our dynamic environment filled with thoughtfully curated materials and an approach that emphasizes critical thinking, intellectual curiosity, self-agency, and creativity, making learning both joyful and meaningful.

  • Social-Emotional Development: Our supportive curriculum helps young children build the confidence to form friendships, take academic risks, and develop the resilience,  flexibility, and persistence they’ll carry through life.

  • Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Through intentional DEI work, we foster a deep sense of belonging—broadening your child’s understanding of the world and human difference to advance compassionate, responsible, courageous citizens.

  • Exceptional Faculty: Our caring and highly qualified educators nurture self-confidence, independence, and a strong work ethic, always meeting children where they are and guiding them forward with our personalized approach to learning.

  • Vibrant Specials & Enrichment: Our preschool students explore choral and instrumental music, art, movement, Spanish music, and science class. In addition to these classes, our Elementary students learn Latin and Spanish, violin, physical education, technology, and library studies. Our sun-filled Courtyard is a beloved space for play and connection for all students every day.

  • Personalized Middle School Placement: We provide thoughtful, individualized guidance during the placement process, helping families find the very best next step in their child’s journey.
